The Docent's Collection

The Docent's Collection is a boutique hotel offering art-inspired luxury lofts woven into the historic buildings of Portland's Old Port. In 2025 the collection expanded with 16 new one- and two-bedroom lofts at 178 Middle Street, the historic Boyd Block, following a multimillion-dollar restoration that earned recognition in the Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards. Each loft pairs bespoke interior design with locally crafted exhibits from Maine artists, fully equipped kitchens, large living areas, and the high level of service that defines the collection. Part of the Maine-based East Brown Cow and Commonwealth Hotels portfolio, it offers a residential, gallery-like alternative to the traditional hotel, steps from the Old Port's cobblestone streets, harbor, and renowned dining.
