Boutique hotel in a restored 1881 Italianate mansion on Portland's Congress Street, with 15 rooms, the Bolster Snow & Co. restaurant, and a basement spa.
The Francis occupies the Mellen E. Bolster House, an 1881 Italianate brick mansion on Congress Street that a local family meticulously restored and reopened as a hotel in 2017. The renovation preserved the building's tiled fireplaces, stained-glass windows, carved woodwork, and original parquet floors while layering in contemporary furnishings, creating fifteen distinctive guest rooms. The ground floor holds Bolster, Snow & Co., a New England farm-to-table restaurant and bar, and the lower level houses a small spa. Steps from the Portland Museum of Art and the city's downtown dining and gallery scene, The Francis is one of the city's most architecturally significant independent hotels.
